Friendship

Would but I could convey from my heart that which is most dear. The thought of you any moment of the day for it is your existence that provides my very life breath. When in despair you firmly take my hand and lead me back onto the path. If I should balk or resist you stand steadfast awaiting consciousness to return.
It is the very essence of your being that propels me on. For there are days that the mountains are too high, my will dissipates and my resolve crumbles like iron too long weathered. I find myself tossed about like the leaf in the wind, you gently capture my soul and keep it safe until I can find my way to safe harbor.
Your words may sting from time to time, like antiseptic upon the wound, for mine own good you say, the hurt within the heart is but momentary as it is replaced with your love. The action perceived from clouded eyes is a misrepresentation just as is the shadow cast at twilight. Where I find demons and ghosts none exist for the light plays tricks upon my mind, the brightness of day like your smile always clears the gloom.
We humans accidentally hurt those we love the most, for our bonds are strong and they bring down the walls of ice and stone, leaving them in rubble at our feet to expose the fragility of our truest nature. It is that which the friend cradles close to the breast and shelters from the harsh realities. Though we cannot see for our own pain, the cruelty of our words and actions can wound but in the love of the friendship find healing that is no less than divine.
Vulnerable in moments of despair, pain exuded from us as though from the very gates of hell. Unleashed in a fury which only a friend can combat and repel. As we lay in a heap, spent from that which tortures us, the balm of their love surrounds us, normalizes our world and renews our faith in humanity which we all but lost.
Oh but friend, without you my world becomes ash, my thoughts scattered like atoms in the cosmic wind and my soul directionless. I beseech you to forgive my inconsistent nature, to look upon me with kind and gentle eyes, for I am lost in the wilderness of indecision and your guidance I seek. This day I call upon you, some future moment the honor to hold you fast shall be mine and I will not shirk such a great responsibility for your love is all that I seek and in this I shall not waiver.
